R&B rap group Pretty Ricky may seem to be an overnight sensation to some but the four brothers, one who sings and 3 who rap, have been making noise around the Miami music scene for a decade. Their 2005 Atlantic Records debut Blue Stars became one of the best selling albums of that year spawning the hit single “Grind With Me” which eventually propelled the project to one million in sales. Pretty Ricky continues to shine with their latest CD Late Night Special that spent 5 weeks on the charts at #1. The wild bunch believes their success comes from their broad fan base. Baby Blue, who raps, speaks on it further:

BABY BLUE of Pretty Ricky: “We make music for everybody. Everybody can relate to Pretty Ricky. Whether it’s a young girl or a older woman or a dude. You know we make the music that sets the vibe for the day. Our core demographic range is 8 years old to Grand Mothers. In the genre we do we cross every border.”

Rapper Lil Mama started rappin when she was barely in here teens. Her love of poetry and dance inspired her to recite poems over beats, catching the ear of her father, who happened to own a record label. After recording “My Lip Gloss”, Lil Mama hit up DJ Enuff who spins on Hot 97 in NY and it was like at first listen. Radio stations rarely play songs by unsigned artist but My Lip Gloss became the exception. Frequent airplay on Hot 97 created a big buzz gaining the attention of Jive Records who signed Lil Mama right away. The 17 Year old outta Brooklyn and Harlem New York is riding high on the success of Lip Gloss and Lil Mama speaks on the inspiration behind the song:

LIL MAMA: “Well I was recording for about 8 years of my life. And, I’ve been doing this for a very long time. One of the tactics I use is to have fun and pretty much come up with my music from a free style mode and have fun with it.. When I went to Atlanta to record my independent album. In 2006 I came up with LIP Gloss. It was fun and vibrant song and when I wrote the verses everything just came so naturally. And, that’s how you got Lip Gloss. I wear lip gloss as you can see…and I think this is something that every young girl and women can wear…It’s fun why not.”
